Bermuda House

Bermuda House is a grand Victorian house right in the heart of Ventnor with outstanding sea views. The house is classified as 4 star self catering and has everything you need for a family holiday. Ventnor is on the south coast of the Isle of Wight.

With its prime central location the harbour and the blue flag sandy beach of Ventnor Bay are a couple of minutes walk away and Ventnor's shops are even closer. Within ten minutes walk there are numerous places to eat and drink. The house is on a private road with exclusive on-road parking for two cars and there is a private cliff-top grassed garden with a tropical tree.

The house has high ceilings with chandeliers, fine cornicing and ceiling roses and a lovely carved staircase. It was built around 1883 on the site of Ventnor Mill. A blue plaque commemorates Sir Edward Elgar spending part of his honeymoon on the first floor of this house in May 1889. From the house Sir Edward wrote to a friend "We are liking this place very much and have nice rooms overlooking the sea..."

The holiday accommodation was completely refurbished in 2007, restoring many Victorian features. It now sleeps ten in five bedrooms, and features a massive front to back kitchen/diner at its heart. New oak flooring has been fitted and the house is decorated and furnished in a contemporary but sympathetic style.

The house is the ideal base for a family holiday on the island or to get the wider family together to celebrate a special occasion, and there is no shortage of modern facilities. All main televisions have free to view satellite TV,with a large widescreen colour LCD TV with DVD and VHS players in the main living room. Equipment in the kitchen includes a dishwasher, washer/drier, microwave cooker, fridge and freezer. Wifi broadband access is provided for guests who bring their own laptops. There are three bath/shower rooms plus a cloakroom and there is central heating through most of the house.

Bermuda House is in a conservation area and has been assessed by the English Tourist Board as 4 Star Gold Award (currently 7% of 4 Star properties in England have a Gold Award) and as suitable for families, walkers and cyclists. It is available as a holiday cottage for whole weeks and for short breaks and weekends outside the main season.
